Just when you thought it was safe to return to the website..
This feels rather like a confessional...forgive me fellow FlyingStartup people but it has been several months since I last wrote a blog. However, fear not, this has not been because I have had to slink back to education with my tail between my legs. No it has been because business is really booming! We did our first trade show in April and life has been frantic (in a good way) ever since.
Our business has seen some major changes, most notably in a change in emphasis on products. We now design, make and sell more 'small gift items' rather than soft furnishings. This has been a sort of natural progression and is proving to be really successful, both from a making perspective and from a selling perspective. It does mean that we need to do more work on the website and get more photography taken - I now understand that a website is never 'finished', it is more like the painting of the Forth Bridge in that once you finish at one end it is time to start at the beginning again.
One of the key things that we have been working on is the organisation of the workroom, which includes the processes of making each type of item. - My husband has turned into a real time & motions man, although thankfully most of his advice is quite useful and not too annoying ;-)
We are now planning our next trade shows (having already re-booked our first trade show for 2008). This will mean travelling to the 'South' (I am married to a real Yorkshire man), however, I have heard that the streets of London are paved with Gold so hopefully these should be equally as successful.
It has been great to catch up by reading other people's blogs.
Bye for now
Ruth

Boom boom!
Hi Ruth
I'm thrilled to hear that you're doing so well. Is your franticness (if that's a word) directly related to the trade show? If so it's obviously the way to go!
Indeed, websites never do seem to be finished. There's loads we'd like to do to ours but inevitably end up working on other peoples and neglecting our own - I guess that's a good thing really ;-)
Keep us posted on further developments.
