My new business - Knight Healthcare

Hi there

My name is Phil Knight and I was quite active on this forum a couple of years ago - talking about the business I’m now in fact about to launch.

My business will be a health insurance broking business selling private medical insurance and protection insurance to individuals, families and companies. This is a market I worked in from 1994 - I’ve worked for WPA Health Insurance, Guardian Health (now part of AXA PPP), BCWA Healthcare, Standard Life Healthcare (now part of PruHealth). I left the private medical insurance market in 2007 to work for a business providing employee assistance plans (EAP’s) called First Assist and then most recently in the group risk market for a business called RED ARC Assured who provide added value healthcare benefits for insurers like Bright Grey, Co-operative Insurance, LV and AEGON. So I’ve got a bit of experience in the health and protection market.

I think the USP’s I bring to my business are a real focus on small business as I’ve been playing with the entrepreneur thing and SME support for a couple of years and also the focus of my business will be around customer service - as a salesperson I’ve come to realise that the proposition you sell is only as good as the support that sits behind it and this is a factor that I think other sales people often forget.

So far in terms of setting up I’ve sorted out the supplier who are providing my Financial Services Authority regulation - this FSA compliance is needed to transact insurance business and this should be done within the next week or so.

I’ve seen a solicitor about the contract this supplier wants me to sign and this is all looking ok. Ealier in the week I saw my accoutant to talk about company formation, record keeping and so forth.

Lastly I’m working hard on developing client acquisition - I’ll hopefully pick up some clients through direct marketing, some via the website (www.knighthealthcare.co.uk), some from telemarketing and some by referrals from non-specialist intermediaries (I’ve already got one in the bag and am contacting others as we speak).
