Making my mind up
I had a lot to think about this week, mainly how will I keep my head above water in these times of recession. So it was a serious contemplation about how I keep payning the mortgage (at least for the next 11 years). I went through the one worksheets in the "Start Your Business Week by Week" book again, is that really what I am committed to each month? OK so I need to look at reducing my outgoings (not sure how though as its all pretty much essentials), and wow I didn't realise what I need to survive.
This has caused me to make my mind up, yes I'm still in the startup mode, but in the short term I'm NOT going to pack in my current job, at least until I can get established. That wont cause too much of a problem right now, and I'll need to review that again in a few months. For the time being whilst setting up I'll be setting time aside to develop the ideas and services. Not being a great telly viewer (there's usually the occasional programme on just before bed which gives me a bit mind numbing relaxation) I've got most nights, and time at weekends (when the lawn doesn't need cut). This will be even better shortly, one of the benefits of my six week summer holiday from work (my current job).

I wish I could have done that!
Hi Alan,
I think you're absolutely right to keep your current job on and build your business up slowly.
It's what I would have chosen to do but I didn't have the choice - I'm a credit crunch redundancy casualty - and hadn't been there long enough to be entitled even to the basic redundancy pay.
So it's a case of putting several irons in the fire - having two different businesses (screencasting and accounting) for me.
Best of luck.
