Thought for the day 3

Today is all about organisation.

Had a monster of a day yesterday - mainly for the 9 to 5 (although I did spend a couple of hours last night running through some potential client lists to pass to my telemarketers when I set up next year - I have about 22,000 potential clients to hit in the UK so that should keep them busy for a month or two !)

The problem was that like most people, when you start the day you have 20 jobs to do and when I finished I have 22. So what did I do all day - I faffed !

Mucked about with my to do list, took calls I didn't need to, sloped off for coffee, started but didn't complete three big jobs and didn't really achieve a 'big' thing all day.

so what's the answer (apart from discipline, self control etc?).

Here's my plan today :

1)Have a rigid to do list, from the list choose one big ticket item and get it done

2)Choose three or four smaller, less urgent jobs - get them done

3)Only take urgent calls - e-mail the non-urgents and let them know I'll call them back later

4) Set my alarm for 4.00pm, at this point stop doing the jobs above (which should be done by then) and make the calls, answer e-mails, prep to do list for tomorrow morning.

5) I usually try and do a little work on either Friday evening or Saturday morning - I'm going to keep this time free for the urgent stuff that comes up today - If I stay on top of my workload as the above structure intends then maybe if I can get things done then I can for once not work at the weekend as a reward

So the plan is STRUCTURE AND SELF CONTROL

I'll let you know how it goes next week !

Bullish about Business, what recession ....

Structure !

A good day - stuck to the plan and got a reasonable amount done.

Lovely sunny evening in Leeds - going to clock off around 5.30 or 6.00 and have a glass of grape juice on the vernada
