No rest for the wicked
Had a pretty good weekend, aside from a phone call from a client on SUNDAY! Will try not to rant, but come on, do we have to be 'on duty' all the time? One of the drawbacks of working from home I guess.
Got a few interesting things going on work-wise at the moment. A good mix of new websites and maintenance/expansion to existing ones. Always happy to get repeat business! This week is fairly quiet for meetings - good job too because next couple of weeks look like they're going to be busy for networking. Got a friend coming for a visit too, hurrah!
Oooh, and we've got a week off planned for the end of the month. Yes, a whole week off... Will look forward to getting out and about a bit.

'On Duty'
Hi Emily,
Yes you have to be on duty all the time.
I had a call back in the early days (possibly did a post on it) at 10:45pm asking how much it would be to change a consumer unit (fuse board to you), As I have my number diverted to my mobile I tend not to answer calls after about 5:30/6ish now if I don't know the number, I've never had one that late since (touch wood) but I've still had late calls and some on Sundays. I know it may be a customer but you have to have sometime off. All in all though it's only been a handful in 3 years, but i'd like to know what goes through their heads? I may ask the next one!
I think that because bigger businesses can provide 24hr hot lines some people think it applies to all businesses. I can't wait until I have an office away from home and someone answering the phone, so I can just close the door and forget about work for a while and get free time. But then do you ever switch off from business? I find when things aren't going well I think about it to much and when things are and I'm coming up with great ideas I want to work on them and develop them.
What sort of life have we let ourselves in for?
Cheers

Glad it's not just me
Hi Paul
I'm glad I'm not the only one who is amazed by it. A friend of ours once had a client phone her at 11pm on a Sunday. How can anyone possibly think that's reasonable?
Erm and no, I never completely switch off from business. I'm shockingly bad at taking time off - probably is as soon as I do I start coming up with loads of ideas!
Cheers, Emily

Relax
Hi Emily,
The brain is most creative when you're relaxed, Especially that point between being awake and just falling asleep So the problem lies there as soon as you start to relax, the brain decides it's a good time to be creative and so gives you loads of ideas and then you think (well I do) I must work on those now.
So at the end of the day it's a bit of a catch 22 situation.
Take care and relax a bit!
Paul
