How can an e-card business make money?

They make money from advertising.

You go to their site to make and send the card. They then get the recipient visiting their site so get 2x the advertising viewing.

They will get paid for space/rental and perhaps a referral fee (e.g. 5p per click) or a % of any sale made as a result of the referral. You will need to show a hit-count to help sales.
e.g. I had x number of visitors who could potentially see your advertisement.

Costs would vary on how much of your own time you would invest. If you did the site design and build yourself then it would cost from £25 per year (assuming you already have a PC)

£20 for suitable webhosting

I can do the Site Design for you too, but this would be expensive and you're better off learning this yourself if it's to be a site providing your bread 'n butter

Top tip for you:
Make them host their own adverts - just link to their banner/animation - this will save you a lot on bandwidth and therefore cheaper hosting for you :lol:
