A little deflated
Hi everyone,
I just had my long awaited meeting with my new business adviser, and it was well.... A little boring actually.
I now know that I will have to sell online because my prices are to high to sell wholesale. I also know that I am now a sole trader with a view to becoming a ltd company after a year. But to be honest The flying start ups book has told me more and given me more confidence in my idea.
I suppose up untill this point I have had great feedback but I dont think my adviser gets it really, ecspecially her idea of my target customer which differed so much from mine.
I have to say she's the experienced one not me so I will absolutley take it all on board ( and do what I was doing anyway... only joking)
I know I have much work to do and it is now starting to feel like the goal posts have moved (again)
I am happy the bank manager I met was enthusaistic and got it. but my business adviser seems to be advising me to stick to things/ideas in terms of product that have been done over and over again, this doesnt make sense to me as my idea is new as will be my market.
Anyway I shall soldier on and make good causes along the way and trust that good effects will appear.
By the way I am in need of a website pretty fast. I really like gee how quaint's website but cant seem to find who designed it. anyone got any ideas.
untill next time.
Vanessa
p.s anyone else had a similar experience

Hi Vanessa
Hi Vanessa,
Reading your log was like I had written it! When ever we told anyone what we planned to do we had the same responce. Stick with it and believe in your ideas. We did and it worked. Good luck and I look forward to reading how well you do!
Take care
Nicky
A not very good business advisor
Hi Vanessa,
before i started up i had a session with a business advisor and then again after i'd been going for a few months, and i didn't think he was all that good! maybe i was wrong but the things he said i should do just didn't seem right and i don't think he actually understood my business at all he said things like i should go on to building sites to see the site manager about work, which was stupid because i was already working on sites at the time and if i'd done that as a sole trader i would have been just working for someone else which was what i was doing already!!
Just because they're a business adviser doesn't mean that they know what they're talking about. Thats the conclusion i came to after that happened anyway.
It may be best to try to find someone you can make a connection with, since it sounds like you didn't with your advisor?

Don't be disheartened by their useless advice
Hello Vanessa,
Trust me when I tell you that your experience seems to be the experience of many of us. When I went to a business advisor, he was so absolutely patronising that I left the meeting feeling very small, stupid and talked-down to. The guy basically told me I didn't have a chance of keeping my business going and he actually spent most of his time telling me about his former marketing company. He didn't even ask to see samples, my business plan, or anything.
As for my website, a friend of mine designed it, however, it was more of a favour to me than his actual job. However, I can suggest popping over to webfooteddesigns to have a look at what she does. I think her style is very similar to what I have and she is very professional.
Good luck,
Cassandra
