Turnover

Hi All
I am currently writing by business plan. I have worked out that I will need to turnover of 10k each month to break even. I will be selling orgainc products (non food) mainly for babies and women and other orgainc / natural products, house hold cleaning etc. Currently we sell only on the net with a much smaller range of these produts and turnover about 1k a month. I have tryed to find other similar shops for sale to get some turn over figuers but cannot find anything to compare.
Does 10k a month seem achievable?

Statistics and advertising.
If you are only a web based seller. Then i would advise you to, Keep log of how many hits a day you recieve then compare this to how many sales you make in a day.
When you have collated this information work out your ratio of Hit / Sales and then you can make up your own mind.
If you end up with a low ratio of something like
20 hits / 1 sale then i would look to spend some cash in advertising. And promoting you site through websites like google.
Google will charge you for every hit you receive at a low rate. This may be a way to boost your sales ebcause if you pay £0.20p and you get 1000 people to your site , You can then compare it to you ratios from above and hopefully you will start to see them balence themselves out.

Hi Anthony,
What is expected turnover is so individual - in addition to what you are actually selling you need to look at location/footfall etc.
You might be able to figure it out by asking local shops to where you want to have yours how many customers/sales they have a day & look at what their prices are and who seems to be shopping.
I live in an area which is absolutely full of great farmshops for instance, and lots of people use them for local and organic produce. I know you are not going for food, but if your area seems to be geared up to going to the big shops only, then that will cause you problems.
Feel free to post your website address for your current range, and then it might make it easier for us all to have an idea if we would buy those things in a local shop.
