market research in forgein country

i truely believe in a product that is a success in the us and uk and i know where i can have it produced but my problem is how to conduct market research in another country, especially since this product isn't already here and if i want to be a whole saler and sell this to the bigger retailers how to keep them from going straight to china themselves.
