godaddy basics

I've used Plug Socket for the past few years www.plugsocket.com I used to use www.easily.co.uk, but things kept going wrong.
About once a year I get a problem with my email, or my website, and I can't figure out what to do. I just ask the help-desk at Plugsocket for step-by-step instructions, and they send them to me (click here, type this in that box, etc). They are the only company I have found who will explain things simply to non-computer people.
It's so confusing, but the basic registration is just buying the domain name.
You then need to employ a company to "host" your domain name (like 1&1, Plugsocket or Easily), and they offer you different packages with webspace and email.
To make life easier for you (so you don't have to use too many different companies), the web hosting companies will sell you the domain name as well as their hosting - they will then register the name on your behalf.
The email will work from then on, but if you want a website, you still have to get someone else to write it so that you can put it on the webspace which you are renting.
In the event that I've completely baffled you, I recommend you phone Plugsocket (0870 042 0404) to ask them exactly what you need. I have always found them really helpful. There is no need to buy from them - you can use any company you choose.

I use godaddy after Steve reccomended,

were very cheap and have always been reliable for my mail but they are starting to up prices and reduce features so you have to buy mail boxes seperatly now used to get 1 all in with domain and a free small site but not any more)

if you have domain try floppynet hearing good things about them.
