Can you sell a business if it's not a ltd company

Hi there
Am starting a new venture which if all goes to plan (a big if, I am aware) could be worth a lot in 5 years time. I am currently a sole trader and plan to stay that way for the time being. Can I still sell the business if it is not a ltd company?

Simple answer
The simple answer is yes you can.
The more complex answer is what is it precisely your going to sell.
If you operate as a Ltd Company this is easier as you sell the Ltd Company which is a legal entity in its own right.
If you operate as a sole trader its not as straight forward because the Company in effect is you.
Therefore you will be selling elements of the business.
The advise I would give you is that firstly your doing exactly the right thing in asking the question now so that you can develop the business into a saleable asset.
I would consult with your accountant say 2 / 3 years before and take a view then the best way to go about things.
You may decide to go limited prior to selling to make it more straightforward?
Also be clear in your mind
Who is going to buy your business.
Why would they buy it.
