Business Strap Line (Tag Line) Ideas??
Hi All,
I have just bought the book, found this site and looking to put it to the test! I can see from reading various parts of the forum there is some excellent knowledge to be gleaned so hopefully someone can help me!!
Overview:
I have set up a company which in essence is a data broker (for Direct Marketing e.g. mailing lists, telemarketing, email etc). The company offers several core services which include prospect data (as previously defined), data cleansing (ensure information is up to date) and analysis (to ensure new prospects mirror existing clients). The company will specifically target SME's across the UK who use any form of Direct Marketing Services to promote their product/services. The emphasis will be placed on independence, service, quality etc....
Problem:
I am currently having a website designed and also corporate stationery/brochure - what I am missing is a tag/strap line for the business. Any ideas? The word data appears in the company name so I am not sure whether it can be replicated in the strap line?
I have read that ideally the strap line should be no more than 6 words and reflect the companies values or what the client will be offered. After thinking for 48 consecutive hours I have managed to drain every particle of knowledge from my brain and have not progressed at all. I just thought it would be interesting to ask people in a community who are not within my industry and see what ideas/thoughts are created.
Please feel free to ask any additional questions about the business which may help!!
Many thanks in advance for your help.
Kind regards
Chris

Hi there,
As far as i can see you have not given your company name so it's hard to give too many idea's.
The idea of a strap line is a little old fashioned, especially with upto 6 words... but they can be used in the right context... hey i use one lol
You would be better using a name that clearly defines what you do, e.g. dataclean, listbroker, databroker as you a service provider. More generic names are used when it's a brand rather than product.
some ideas off the top of my head... and bear in mind i've had no caffeine yet

Hi Chris
Try thinking of something ending in "Specialist". What is there about your business that is better than the next Data Broker. You don't want to sound like a "me too" business.
Is there a negative that can be turned around? In the engineering world, my business is small. Thinking of what's special about being small I realized I would be better than the larger businesses at intricate work, so came up with "The Intricate Specialist" expanding to "Specializing in small scale intricate precision machine work". Also tthe age of large factories where everything is done in house are going, and more small workshops are springing up, so I came up with "The future is compact engineering." Compact being another positive word for small.
What is your business's view of the future and what will it do to embrace it?
Here's another idea; try something ending with "People" like "The Heathy Data People"
I hope this tea drinker is more help to you.

Hey Chris
One way to get there is to write down all the benefits that your services provide, clients really only care about how what you do can make their business better, the essence of your business is data what does that mean to your clients, how does data cleansing benefit them? how does having a client database help them? do this for all your services, collect all the keywords, such as time efficient, target driven, etc etc and from those keywords and a little copywriting magic you should hit upon a really succinct & effective strapline that your customers will relate to immeadiately.
