10 year take off
Hi,
I have been trying to startup a company for about 10 years now. I have trialled the the idea and found that it works. However I have been totally lost about how to go about things.
The other day when browsing the local book shop I discovered Steve's book on starting your business, week by week...now I feel I am finally moving down the runway.
Anyway...getting to the point. I want to start a limited company, I know I need to go to companies house to register it, but do I need an accountant or solicitor to get involved at this point?
thanks
J

You can have an accountant and solicitor at this point if you want. We had our accountant as he completed some of the paperwork for us, but you can do it all yourself.

I wouldn't employ an accountant until I was ready to trade, unless there are a lot of complicated tax considerations. Its simple to create a company yourself, register for VAT etc and there is no point wasting money when you need it most.
Hi Jamie,
Are you really sure you want to start a Limited Company?
As If you are starting from home. You can start as a Sole Trader and if your business becomes successful and profitable. You can then develop into a Limited Company. If you are still insistent, then I would try to goto www.brightonformations.co.uk.As you can buy a Limited Company off the shelf.(It usually costs £50-£100).
Also you can buy a book on Setting Up a Limited Company from either Lawpack Publishing (website address is www.lawpack.co.uk) or kogan page (www.koganpage.co.uk).
The Only reason I say this is I was given advice to start a Limited Company (About 10 years ago). And it ended being a costly mistake.
I did not know what was involved (the only benefit being the Limited Liability) As You have to file annual returns with Companies House!!! by law.
Otherwise you get fined or keep the company dormant!!!
My next business will be freelance self-employed or a sole trader!!!
All The best with your business adventure
Kind Regards
