Hi all

I have been watching this site for a while and have decided to become more actively involved, at least for a while.
So, here I am, a 45 years old, two children, a second wife with the first one costing my business and now looking to rebuild!
Whoever said divorce was expensive wasnt kidding, I had no idea it would be as devasting as it has been.
I had a young but very successful business which I was forced to turn my back on, I mean this thing had great potential, I did 70K in my first and only 5 months of operation.
This business was in a niche market and very specialist. I had created my own product range which as stood the test of time, if it was still available would still be the best, its a World beater!
Now, two years on and I look back at this achievement while looking for potential employers in this field. Guess what, they still dont cut it against this product. I could go further, they do not comply with all the relevant legislation so you could argue that they are technically illeagal or a ticking time bomb of a problem waiting to happen.
So to the obvious conclusion, I won't be working for any of my one time competitors!
Back to divorce being expensive, well I no longer have the means to do it all over again, yes it can be that expensive!
So what are my options, well thinking on this I decided to post this blog and put my thinking to the test.

I am prepared to sell the rights to this product and all the relevant knowledge to make it successful once more.
Alternatively, I am prepared to give a majority stake in a new company to any individual or group of investors who see the value and potential of this product being relaunched and personally head up the project either short term or indefinately.

Anyone reading this should be aware, I am no longer in a position to invest or take this forward alone.
That said, interest should be expressed through this forum and I will respond promptly.

Finding investors

Welcome (back?) to the site! What an upheaval. It must be terribly frustrating for you to see others do badly what you could have done so much better yourself, and it seems you were well on the way.
It does sound like you need a good amount of investment to take things forward. Most people on here probably haven't got that amount of money either (but who knows who's watching!). Anyway. Sound like you need one of more Angels who have lots of spare cash, and also some experience in the right fields, or at least related.
Steve has written a book called "how to fund your business" that is full of advice on how to prepare your business for a sale or growth or how to start up when you need funds from outside. It does have sections on everything from grants to listing on the stock markets, and angels are in there too.

Hi All A little divorce

Hi All

A little divorce story. I don’t know if its true and I don’t care because I like it. Its also business related so…

A guy was going through a divorce and he run a very successful building trade business. His to be divorced partner wanted part of this business. The lawyers had contacted him and expressed an interested and detailed what percentage of the business the ex wife would get.

The owner arranged a meeting with his ex and both teams of lawyers to discuss the business. Once the meeting started the owner pulled out a folder and handed it over. Inside were all the documents and keys. He said you can have the hole lot. I don’t want anything to do with it at all.

A little surprised but aware of the profit the company made the lady accepted.

Six months later the business was declared bankrupt.

The original owner had simply set up another company 5 mins down the road. All the original suppliers and customers went to his business.

Well that’s my little waffle over with. Good luck with finding investment. The idea sounds interesting maybe one day when its up and running again you can post on here what it is?

Just a few general comments

Just a few general comments about finding investment. Generally you need to prepare a really good business plan (there are books on how to do so, probably websites too). As you already know a lot about the business, yours can be even more realistic, which is a huge plus point.

Venture capital investors (and I'd guess other investors too) want to know two things . . . exactly how much money they will get back, and when, and that there is experienced management running the business.

You might want to get a signed confidentiality agreement before talking to anyone, so they can't so easily just steal your idea.

There is some kind of British venture capital association (not sure if they're called exactly that), who used to produce a free book on available venture capital.

You can also find big investment companies directly on the net.

You could also approach private investors yourself . . . one way to find them would be to talk to people who deal with real estate . . . they usually know private investors, and some of them might be interested in branching out. There are many discussion forums for real estate investement, including some on www.singingpig.co.uk (who also have general business forums). I even found investors advertising on the Loot newspaper!
