Feedback good bad and ugly please
Hi My name is Gemma Blagbrough, I have been wanting to have a go at starting my own business for a long time. My business idea is as follows:
" To set up a training company which will specialise in working with young people delivering informal education and personal development opportunties.
During the first six monrhs, the training offered will focues on the following areas Self esteem and confidence building, Anger mangement, Drugs awareness, Peer Mentoring, Careers guidance and progression and homelesness issues.
Some of my questions are:
How can I find out what to charge?
Where could I get a test market to try out some of my ideas on before going for it for real?
Are there any sources of funding so that the training could be provided free at the point of delivery?
Is there anyone already within the organisation who could deliver this training or could I deliver it to mangers for them to then feedback, but then charge more?
Any hrlp would be appriciated
Thanks Gemx
Thanks for that Robert they are all good ideas, and I will give them all a try. I have not got too much to lose at this point as I am still working, I will let you know how I get on in my pilots logs
Thanks again, Gemma

Hi Jemma
How can I find out what to charge?
I think what your best bet would be is to find out how much a personal personal trainer earns or you could even go as far as a teacher, if you so wished. I'd imagine youd want to charge by the hour?
The only concern I'd have is your target market if your wanting to make money out of this are the people going to pay if they are from deprived backgrounds.
Where could I get a test market to try out some of my ideas on before going for it for real?
Try schools, educational institues or even Universities, perhaps you could organise a village gathering?
Are there any sources of funding so that the training could be provided free at the point of delivery?
If you were thinking of offering funding, I'd personally say don't as a start-up you need to keep costs down. If you were going to get an external agency to offer financial support such as the Student Loans Company there are certain terms and conditions that apply.
Perhaps contact your local council or business link.
Is there anyone already within the organisation who could deliver this training or could I deliver it to mangers for them to then feedback, but then charge more?
This is a bit of tough one some companies do have personal in house trainers, while others employ external agencies. If your offering it to young people they could get most of their information from schools or the NHS.
I hope this helps, I'm a start-up as well and have been trading for over 4 months. So if I can help in anyway please let me know
Regards
Robert Haylor
