sales leads?
Hello guys,
After about a year I have finally broken into the sales industry. I am absolutely desperate to stay within this position. My questions that follow may seem very basic to most of you but I am completely new to this area and really need all the advice I can get please.
My questions are as follows:
1. Can anyone give me some pointers on generating business such as where to find leads and how to acquire customers etc...
2. Could anyone recommend any books on this subject?
Just to give you an idea I already network etc...
Any help/advise will be much appreciated!
Kind regards,

There are so many books on this subject. Just nip in to the local library, type selling or sales into their computer (or have a librarian do it for you), and take your pick of titles, it's free.

Hello Anne,
Thank you for your response.
Try and find a way to write a piece of editorial that can promote your product and be interesting. Its a cheap way of advertising if you can get the right angle. You could set a competion to go with it with a prize and state they have to enter via your website, that way they would have to look and it may start the ball rolling.
Its not the huge sales push I think you are looking for but it may be a way of spreading the word.

What product are you selling?
Is it business to business or customers?
Do you sell to a specific sector?
Sales and lead generation all depend on the above.
I sell business to business and get most of my work through networking and referrals. Approximately 75%.
You should be able to do the same in the long term when you've built up a client base.
In the short term, you need to be getting on the phone and talking to the people that you're selling to.
If you can let me know answers to the above then I'll be able to help. I've been in b2b sales for 8 years and have my own business. Sales is a lot about confidence, but it's also about doing your research and there is plenty that can set you aside from your competition.
